From Margins to Mainstream, our final event for 2018 brings together publishers, producers and agents to discuss how Chinese-heritage writers can connect with the writing industry.
Lorne Campbell, Artistic Director of Northern Stage, chairs our panel of industry experts. Participants will be able to book one-to-one slots with panellists to discuss specific writing queries.
Melanie Harris worked as a BBC radio drama producer before setting up the northern base of BBC Writersroom developing talent for TV, film, new media and radio. Melanie now runs SparkLab Productions making award-winning programmes for all BBC radio networks, as well as audio books, audio trails and podcasts.
Niki Chang is a literary agent at The Good Literary Agency. She joined TGLA in 2018 after working at Aitken Alexander Associates, first in the film, TV and stage department and latterly in the books department. She represents writers of both fiction and non-fiction as well as poets.
Will Mackie from New Writing North manages the Northern Writers’ Awards, the talent-development programme for writers in Northern England, and New Writing North’s portfolio of prizes. He previously worked as a fiction and poetry editor, and was Head of Writer Development at the Scottish Book Trust.
Production Editor, Françoise Harvey, joined Mslexia in 2015 after several years working in legal publishing. With Debbie Taylor she co-wrote the Indie Press Guide, the Mslexia guide to small and independent book publishers and literary magazines in the UK.
We will also be announcing the winners of The Bi’an Awards and reading the winning entries. This event will be followed by a meal in Newcastle’s Chinatown for those who wish to join us.
